Here's a remarkable/clever/funny/wonderful book.
The Pooh Perplex
But what's it got to do with the German language ?
(I wonder if you can get it in German ? There's a thought. )
(... you can certainly get "Pu der Bär" and "Pu baut ein Haus" )
( ..and I hope you certainly have ...)
It is a remarkable, funny and very clever book.
Widnes, however is a complete dump [ Der Abfallhaufen]
It contains 12 chapters, each written by a different author, and each author has a totally different set of things to say about the Pooh stories. Here's some of the titles ...and their authors....
HARVEY C. WINDOW
The Hierarchy of Heroism in Winnie-the-Pooh.
MURPHY A. SWEAT
Winnie and the Cultural Stream.
WOODBINE MEADOWLARK
A la recherche du Pooh Perdu
SIMON LACEROUS
Another Book to Cross Off Your List
BUT ..the thing is, I got half way through it without realising it was all a rollicking parody of actual writers ..Simon Lacerous, for example, is actually F.R Leavis.
Well, I was only 14.
And oddly, about 6 years later at University, I spent an hour or so with FRL in which he rambled on about what a terrible person W.H. Auden was. This was because only me and Laurence Coupe turned up to his " seminar." Experience is cheap at any price.
So what's that got to do with German ?
Well .... being jumped-up literary experts, they all like to bung bits of German in their writings, to make them look intellectual/international. And they have !
So ...here's some juicy [saftig] examples ...
" .... Bunker's unwary description of Pooh as a " ganz einfaches Beispiel der Kinderliteratur"
" This is the so-called Expotition to the North Pole .. dismissed by Bunker as a picaresque expression of the " Wanderlust der Kindheit."
" the sinister example of the Deutsches Jungvolk ..."
" ..Milne's repressed materials will themselves express ( sich aussprechen) within the text."
"..whence comes this Weltschmertz ?"
" .... an unmistakable representation of the underlying Pooh's meaning [Urpoohdeutung ] ...
" What is uncanny [ unheimlich ] is that I have often felt this to be true myself."
" ..the artist as artist [ als Künstler ] was not especially neurotic...
AND ..there's plenty more of that sort of thing for you to find. Loads !!
AND ...as an extra bonus, the penultimate chapter .....
A.A. Milne's Honey-Balloon-Pit-Gun-Tail-Bathtubcomplex
BY
KARL ANSCHAUUNG, M.D.
..... is a wonderful/silly/fascinating project in which Anschauung has written it in English, of course, but the layout of the sentences is mostly the German sentence-order in. Find we that he the things that normally earlier on go, now at the end of the sentence appear. Which odd rather is. Think I it is ,to start with, funny, but, up-fed it become could.
So, folks, rush out and get it, enjoy it, and find loads more that sort of thing of, yourself for.
