Plenty to think about.
I like this performance a lot ... you get a bit of talking to the audience, subtly witty in a "throw-away, offhand sort of way, and then a "song" .... and it also has added to my take on the German sense of humour. Plenty to think about.

German dictionary breakthrough ? What's that all about ? Well, I got a battered old German dictionary the other day, and there was something extra about it ....something that none of my other dictionaries do ... And it is, in my opinion, a good something extra .... see if you can spot it on these sample pages ... Have you spotted it yet ? Don't worry if not ... I'll tell you after the music spot. Plus, the irregular verb table at the back goes the extra mile by putting in more that the usual stuff .... so the first one, backen, goes ... Pres Indic inf 3pSing Imp Indic Imperf Subj Imper PParticiple English ! backen bäckt bakte(buk), backte, backe, gebacken, ..... bake So that's all good ..... and as an added bonus, there's an odd thing at the start ... the book was given as a prize for some unknown pupil of Edge End High School back in November 1975 by an illegible headmaster called, I think, Hvuud . But the odd thing is, the lucky recipient got it for Environmental Studies. Surely a book about butterflies or woodlice or fungi would have been more appropriate ... but who are we to judge ? MUSIC ! .... Rosenstolz .... " Aus Liebe wollt ich alles wissen" I'm sure you've noticed that extra thing.
For Blizzard we get Der Schneesturm . And not just the measly Schneesturm, m I think that's a good thing. We're more likely to remember that it is masculine. Sorted ! Here's the next song in my award-winning " Learn a German Song Every Day/Week/Month/Year" delete as required.... And here are the actual words, all ready [bereit] for you to copy out into your handy useful notebook [Notizbuch] so you can sing them to yourself in the attic [Dachboden], and/or carefully translate them/commit them to memory, change all the nouns into the next noun "up" in your German dictionary, with remarkable [ bemerkenswert] results, colour in all the "o's" and "p's" etc or ignore them completely. Mein 16. I got that book up there about the middle-game in chess for a mere £1 in a charity shop. You will be surprised to hear that it is full of lovely long German words.... oh yes ! And not-so-long words as well ... like the lovely "Wirrwarr" below. And a few lines down we have the fine "Betätigungsfeld" as well. So, as you might have guessed, here's some more juicy extracts from this fine book. Full of words, both long and not-so-long, to sort out ..... Also los ! Jemine ! Nehmen Sie noch etwas ? I think ten is enough for now ...... another interesting thing to do when you get a book, is to "predict" some words you might find in it .... for a chess book like that one, you would expect words like Angriff, Drohung, König, Kampf, Gegenspiel, Schwarz, Weiß, Partie usw ... and combinations of them and other words ..... Anyway, let's have a bit of music .... when you're playing chess, you can't be a Hasenhertz/Hasenfuß/Feigling .... Here's the whole Janosch story " Wie schön ist Panama" in video format ..... it is a rather sad but very moral tale. I've also got it in French, but the German version is a much better read....... Here's an interesting "discussion" about the famous German film " Lola Rennt" ... which I'm sure you've all seen (?). It is reasonably clear, depending on how far along the rocky road to German you are, but well worth a look. Take note of that "schlecht gealtert" bit as well ... Well, I hope you found that interesting .... and here's Juli and " Geile Zeit " which you can sing along with if you like ... |
