They're all well and good, I suppose ... but who decides ?
... on what basis ?
... what the hell is the third one ? neU ??
... that can't be right ... that's # 11.
... it must be nett .. but even blowing it up doesn't reveal
the crossbar on the t's.
... mind you, I've only got a dinky screen.
alt old glücklich happy groß big, tall gut good jung young
klein small, little klug clever kurz short lang long langsam slow
leicht easy müde tired nah close nett nice neu new
schnell fast schön beautiful schwer difficult traurig sad weit far
So ... maybe they've done big surveys of what adjectives are the commonest .... is that the same as the most "important ?". I also suspect that the results would be very different if you sampled, say, songs. Or horror stories! Or newspaper headlines. Or children's books. Or lieder ! Or Miss Marple. Or the sports pages. Or cartoons.Or the German version of Rolling Stone.
Hey .. I might dig out an old copy of Die Zeit and do my own survey.
But then .. there's our own personal Top 20's. So when I'm writing my diary in rather crappy German, usually with chunks of Welsh in at well, I tend to use memorable and spectacular adjectives to make my dinky life seem more exciting than it really is ...
So .... here's some of my most-used ( when writing) (because I've got then on my list on the back page of my diary) .. in no particular order ..
doof erstaunlich schlammig unglaubich klobig
mies katastrophal unsinnig gewöhnlich selten
farblos unsichtbar nutzlos schwierig glücklich
kaputt uberwältigend unsichtbar enttäuscht vermißt
Feel free to send me yours ..... there's a comment thingy down there, and this blog has its own email .... cryptically called [email protected]
Now it's music time... currently zooming up the rankings in the " best German music selection by an idiot" category ... up from 79456th to 79453rd. today it's a fine words video for " Lass uns verschwinden " ....
