But they're not the only type of dual-language book.
There are quite a few novels that have appeared in dual-language English-German format.
And I've recently got this one ..
Being "Alice in Wonderland" it is very entertaining and full of odd byways which might well have tested the skill of the translator somewhat.
Another clever thing they've done, is, they've made the English typeface a bit bigger than the German, so that the paragraphs are nearly all parallel with each other, making them much easier to compare side by side.
Here's some of the best things about them..
[1] You can read a dual-language book in public without looking like a prat because you don't have to get your dictionary out every 5 minutes/seconds and look stuff up ! Bonus !!
[2] You can find out the meaning of various things you've never been able to find out the meaning of. I'm sure you'll all know what I mean.
( This is especially true for Welsh... there's loads of Welsh words and phrases which simply are totally unfindable in any dictionary.) But it's also a problem with other, less impenetrable languages as well. Like German.
Here's how the Alice book is set out ... side-by-side, facing pages.
On the other hand, it might drive you mad.
And don't forget, another very simple way of obtaining the "Dual-Language" option is to buy the same book in the two languages you want. Often it's a pretty cheap way to do it as well. For example, I've got quite a few of Roald Dahl's children's books ( just right for me then) in all sorts of languages... English, German, Welsh, French, Spanish ... plus many other books as well... Mr. Men !, the Pooh books, Just William, Sherlock Holmes .... loads.
And if you're a beginner, don't be ashamed to read children's books .... Horrid Henry is excellent, Popeye, Tintin ( it means Arse-Arse in Welsh) ... Le Petit Nicolas/ Der kleine Nick are wickedly funny ... wasted on kids ! All available in various languages.
Here's Rammstein with a fine acoustic (!!) version of " Ohne Dich" ........
.. I know it doesn't seem very likely, but here it is .....
